Product · Notula
Invoices that pass every check.
Notula writes XRechnung and ZUGFeRD to EN 16931 — and creates them where you work. Invoice data never leaves your device: no account, no cloud, no upload. Launching soon.
The legal position
An obligation with a date.
In Germany the electronic invoice arrives as a deadline, not as a recommendation. What applies is written in the law — set out here without embellishment.
| From | Who is affected | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| since 1 Jan 2025 | every domestic business must be able to receive electronic invoices | § 14 UStG |
| 1 Jan 2027 | businesses above 800,000 euro prior-year turnover must issue them | § 27 (38) UStG |
| 1 Jan 2028 | all remaining businesses under standard taxation | ibid. |
| permanently exempt | small businesses under § 19 UStG — they receive, but never have to issue | § 34a UStDV |
How it works
Two formats, one decision fewer.
The recipient picks the format
A business customer receives ZUGFeRD — a readable PDF with the invoice data embedded. A public authority receives XRechnung with its routing identifier. Notula decides this from the stored recipient, not from a question put to you.
The data stays with you
There is no account and no upload. Invoices, customers and the number range live in your device's storage; files appear only when you download them. That is not a missing feature but the design: data that is never transmitted needs neither a legal basis nor a processing agreement.
What is inside
From the document to the tax audit.
Notula does not only write invoices, it keeps the outgoing ledger — with everything that is required afterwards.
Writing
Line items, tax rates and three tax regimes: standard taxation, the small-business rule of § 19 UStG and the reverse-charge rule of § 13b UStG.
Receiving
Drop an incoming invoice in as PDF or XML and the fields appear in readable form. The duty to receive already applies.
Keeping the ledger
An unbroken number range, a write-protect step, a checksum chain, and cancellation instead of silent deletion.
For the tax adviser
A posting batch in the format used by German tax practices, encoded the way their software reads it.
Retention
An export for the tax audit: documents, index and checksums in one package, readable without our software.
Checked before output
Every invoice is checked against the mandatory particulars of § 14 UStG before it is produced. Whatever is missing is named at the field.
Limits
What Notula does not do.
Three things invoicing software likes to promise and which are expressly not promised here.
No tax advice
What is checked is the format and the business rules. Whether a tax rate is factually correct is for your tax adviser — German law draws that line in § 5 StBerG, and it is stated in the documents the software produces.
No certification
There is no state seal for this. The check against the official validation service has not been completed; until then the position is: the formats are produced and checked internally, an official confirmation of conformity does not exist.
The checksum chain is not overstated either: it shows that the documents are consistent with one another. It becomes evidence towards third parties only once the head of the chain is recorded regularly outside the device.
Pricing model
Bought once instead of rented monthly.
The model is settled; the figures follow at launch. Nothing can be bought today.
Purchase, not subscription
Notula is bought once and keeps working afterwards — without renewal and without a connection to us. There is no licence server that could switch it off.
One year of maintenance
- Included in the purchase: twelve months of updates
- Format changes are the reason — the rules change by regulation
- After that the last delivered version stays usable indefinitely
- A multi-seat edition for firms is planned
Platforms
Where Notula will run
Nothing has been released yet — we do not put up a button with nothing behind it.
| Target | Edition | State |
|---|---|---|
| Browser | web application, usable without a connection | at launch |
| Tablet | can be placed on the home screen | at launch |
| Windows · macOS · Linux | standalone edition with a file archive | built, to follow |
For retention the edition with a file archive is the sturdier one: browser storage can be cleared by the operating system, a file on disk cannot.
